Hello! Clár Dubh is an emerging hand knit and up cycled brand, focusing on sustainability and a revival of old craft techniques, once handed down - like an old jumper - from generation to generation in Ireland. Founder Claire has been knitting since childhood; first taught by her mother and grandmother, and gaining a BA in Textiles from the University of Ulster, she wants to help rekindle the art of handmade.
Working from a small-hold family run alpaca farm, set in the stunning landscape of the Causeway Coast and Glens, we care for each and every alpaca individually as they are part of our family here; we respect them as such, giving them fresh open pastures to graze on, and a nurturing hand for them to thrive.
Literally and metaphorically taking “the road less travelled”, we are trying to ensure as much of our produce will be sourced as locally as possible; from our herd in the fields, to a mill a mere twenty miles away, every effort is made for the process to be ethical and homegrown. All inspiration for each garment comes from the natural landscape around us, as well as Irish tradition, folklore and a wee touch of Andean magic from our alpaca kin. Claire’s designs are whimsical and romantic, infused with some rugged Irish heritage.
Clár Dubh is still in its infancy as a brand, but the story has been a long time in the making, and there’s so much to tell…
